Petra’s background as a counsellor and psychotherapist has equipped her with a deep understanding of the pressures that many couples and families encounter. She has a special interest in helping those couples and families with teenagers in the mix. Petra works with many couples and families under extreme pressure from a variety of sources – including cultural clashes, blended families, and differences in expectations, styles and temperaments.

Many couples and families she sees are under stress in their attempts to cope with, or make sense of depression and/or anxiety, in one or more of the members – perhaps a young child, or a teenager who is struggling in one way or another. They may be battling with bullying, substance abuse, different parenting styles, or existential issues due the parent’s midlife pressures, or the teenager’s issues of adolescence. Sometimes a number of these issues are happening at the same time.

Petra focuses on creating an atmosphere where each member can feel valued and respected – where each one can move towards whatever may foster their sense of purpose, and promote their existential and personal growth.
